Our
Story

Welcome! My name is Justine Norton; I am a Certified Dog Behavior Consultant and Trainer. My passion for animals was sparked at a young age, leading me to spend time volunteering in the world of Veterinary Medicine throughout high school, culminating in a summer working at a family member's veterinary clinic in Missoula before starting college. In 2009, I started working at Petco, where I first dipped my toes in dog training. This is where I met my mentor, and after a year, I went to work with and learn from her. Over the 14 years I spent working under her, I earned multiple certifications in training and behavior consulting, earned my degree from Washington State University, and rescued my first "big girl" pet, a dog named Cassie. Cassie was my heart dog, she came from a difficult background and had experienced more trauma than she ever should have, but together, we learned the incredible impact training and behavior modification can make for the dog, the owner, and the bond between the two. Words cannot express the honor it was to earn her love and absolute trust, reaffirming my desire to make this my career.

When entering Washington State University, I knew I wanted to earn a degree that complimented behavior and training. Through my experience and studies, I have found that a strong nutritional foundation is instrumental in a well-rounded approach to behavior; to that end, I earned a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science, with a focus on animal nutrition and a minor in Psychology.

During my 15 years in training and behavior, I have had the privilege of working with a wide variety of dog breeds, including some rare breeds and temperaments. I have had the opportunity to train both Service Dogs and Therapy Dogs, teach classes, and create a curriculum for evaluating dogs and handlers, as well as trainers in training. Additionally, I have worked with companies that needed training for their employees on how to interact with dogs in their professional settings, shelters and nonprofits looking to create or improve programs for dogs and the people handling them, and provided hands-on training for safe and low-stress handling to various veterinary clinics and their staff.

I work hard to keep up on continuing education allowing me to stay current on training and behavior techniques, as well as nutrition training. What gives me the most satisfaction is seeing a well-trained team in action. There is nothing more rewarding than the bond with your canine companion, and my joy comes from fostering that bond.

Cassie has since passed on, but I currently have three wonderful dogs in my home: 2 standard poodles, Riley (10) and Evee (2), and a miniature poodle, Penny (<1). Some of my hobbies, when I am not working, include creating individualized meal plans, grooming, and hiking with my dogs (Yes, I know I have a problem; I just love dogs too much😂)

I look forward to meeting you and your furry friend!
